How Creators Monetize on Tern

Everything you need to know about earning through Creator Subscriptions, Gifts, and Video Rewards on the Tern platform.

Overview

Tern empowers creators to earn real income from their content. There are multiple revenue streams available to eligible creators:

Creator Subscriptions

Fans subscribe for exclusive content. You keep the majority of revenue.

Gift Centre

Viewers send virtual gifts during your content. Gifts convert to real earnings.

Video Rewards

Eligible videos earn rewards based on views, engagement, and quality.

Requirement: You must become a Signature Creator on the app before you can access monetization features. Signature verification is done within the Tern app under your profile settings.

Video Eligibility

Not all videos qualify for rewards. To be eligible, your content must meet the following criteria:

What Makes a Video Eligible

Full vlogs about you visiting real places — show the area, the atmosphere, your genuine experience.
Original content created by you at the location. No reposts or re-uploads.
Content that highlights the place — the surroundings, ambiance, food, culture, activities.
High-quality video (HD or above) with clear audio and stable footage.
Minimum 15 seconds in length, ideally 30 seconds or more for full rewards.
Properly tagged to the correct place on the map.

What Disqualifies a Video

AI-generated content — no deepfakes, AI voiceovers, or fully synthetic videos.
Content not filmed at a real place (studio-only talking head videos without location context).
Stolen or re-uploaded content from other creators.
Content that violates community guidelines (hate speech, nudity, violence, spam).
Videos with misleading place tags — tagging a different location than where you filmed.
Extremely low quality or blurry footage.

Tip: The best performing content shows you genuinely exploring a place — walking through, trying food, showing the environment. Think travel vlog, not selfie.

Creator Subscriptions

Creator Subscriptions allow your fans to subscribe to you for exclusive content. You can offer two tiers:

Free Subscription

Followers can subscribe for free to get notified of new posts and access your subscriber-only content.

Early access to new posts
Subscriber-only stories
Badge on their profile

Paid Subscription

Premium

Set your own monthly price. Fans pay to unlock premium content and get closer access to you.

Priority replies in comments

How to Set Up

Open the Tern app and go to your Profile.
Tap Creator Settings (you must be a Signature Creator).
Enable Subscriptions and choose whether to offer a free tier, paid tier, or both.
Set your monthly price (for paid subscriptions).
When posting content, choose the visibility: Public, Subscribers, or Paid Only.

Revenue Split: Creators receive the majority of subscription revenue. Aentury Limited takes a small platform fee to cover payment processing and infrastructure.

Gift Centre

The Gift Centre allows your viewers to send you virtual gifts while watching your content. Gifts are purchased with real money and convert directly to creator earnings.

How It Works

A viewer watches your eligible video in the feed.
They tap the Gift button on the right action bar.
They choose a gift from the Gift Centre and send it to you.
You receive the gift value in your creator balance.
Withdraw earnings via Mobile Money or other supported methods.

Requirements

You must be a Signature Creator with gift receiving enabled in Creator Settings.
Gifts are only available on videos that meet the eligibility criteria.
Viewers cannot gift themselves or their own content.

Video Rewards

Eligible videos earn rewards based on performance metrics. The more genuine engagement your place-based content receives, the more you earn.

What Factors Determine Rewards

Views

Total unique views your video receives.

Watch Time

How long viewers watch — higher completion = higher rewards.

Engagement

Likes, comments, saves, and shares from viewers.

Quality Score

HD video, stable footage, good lighting, clear audio.

Remember: Only videos that meet the eligibility requirements qualify for rewards. AI-generated content, reposts, and content not filmed at real places are automatically disqualified.

Payouts

All earnings — from subscriptions, gifts, and video rewards — accumulate in your creator balance.

Withdrawal Methods

Mobile Money (MTN, Vodafone, AirtelTigo) — instant payouts in GHS.
Bank Transfer — available for larger amounts.

Minimum Payout: You must reach the minimum payout threshold before requesting a withdrawal. This ensures efficient processing and reduces transaction fees.

Policies & Guidelines

To maintain a safe, trustworthy platform for all creators and viewers, please follow these guidelines:

No AI-Generated Content: Videos must be filmed by you at real places. AI voiceovers, deepfakes, and synthetic media are not allowed for monetization.
Original Content Only: Do not re-upload or claim ownership of content created by others.
Accurate Location Tags: Always tag the correct place where you filmed. Misleading tags result in content removal.
Community Standards: No hate speech, nudity, violence, harassment, or illegal activity.
Signature Creator Required: You must be verified as a Signature Creator in the app to access Subscriptions, Gifts, and Video Rewards.
